The Arizona Gubernatorial race was a heated race between Republican Candidate Kari Lake and Democrat Candidate Katie Hobbs, but the race has now been called and Katie Hobbs is the new Governor of Arizona.

NBC News reported “Democratic Secretary of State Katie Hobbs has defeated Republican Kari Lake in Arizona’s race for governor, NBC News projected Monday. Hobbs’ victory is key for Democrats in a presidential battleground — though the closeness of the contest left the result up in the air for nearly a week.”
The outlet added that, “A record number of early ballots were dropped off on Election Day in Maricopa County, officials said, which had to be processed in a more time-intensive manner that includes signature verification. Maricopa County, the state’s most populous, said Sunday that it estimated that its count was 94 percent complete after receiving a historic 290,000 of those early ballots on Election Day.”

The Republican candidate in the race, Kari Lake, was adamant that she would win the Arizona gubernatorial race as ballots were continuing to be counted.
“I’m really suffering because we worked hard on that campaign, our followers have been so passionate and they’re waiting on pins and needles. I want them to know tonight I’m 100% confident we win this,” Lake said during an interview with Sean Hannity.
Following the results of the election Lake issued a defiant tweet saying “Arizonans know BS when they see it.”

During the campaign Kari Lake wholeheartedly believed she would blow her Democratic opponent out of the water saying, “I’m going to do two terms. I’m going to be your worst frickin’ nightmare for 8 years,” but the race was extremely close and ended up going in favor of Katie Hobbs.
In the past, Lake has been one of the top Republicans voicing their concerns over voter fraud and criticizing election results. Given that it will be interesting to see how the Republican responds to the unexpected defeat.
