A-list Actor Kurt Russell recently spoke out on his beliefs of how Hollywood celebrities should handle themselves with regards to their political views.
During a New York Times co-feature interview with Goldie Hawn, Russell didn’t hold back on his fellow Hollywood stars’ political outpours.
“The last thing I like to watch is entertainers or actors get political,” Russell said.
“It’s just something I can’t stand watching. So having said that, I was kind of asked to put it in context somehow with this movie,” Russell said, referencing “The Hateful Eight,” a previous film he starred in.
“In reality, when we’re dealing with things like terrorism, we’re all going to have different opinions on how to do it, how to deal with it. Mine happens to be, that I think there’s a very strong reason the Founding Fathers had for the Second Amendment and that is that no government ever hasn’t had to fight its own people. I think that’s an important part of our existence.”
“I’ve always been someone who felt we are court jesters. That’s what we do,” Russell said about Hollywood actors. “As far as I’m concerned, you should step away from saying anything so that you can still be seen by the audience in any character.”
Russell continued saying “There’s no reason entertainers can’t learn just as much as anybody else about a subject, whatever it is.
“But I think that what’s sad about it is that they lose their status as a court jester. And I’m a court jester. That’s what I was born to do.” Russell said.
“A court jester is the only one who can walk into the castle and put the king down as long as he doesn’t hit too close to home. I think that’s been a big, important part of all cultures throughout history, and I’d like to see it stay in ours.”
Celebrities often find themselves in hot water regarding their political beliefs. Whether they are speaking out on behalf of Joe Biden, or staying true to Donald Trump, Hollywood actors put themselves in hot water with their fans and sometimes professionals in the industry.
