42 year-old Allison Fluke-Ekren betrayed her country as her Muslim faith and the terrorist group’s persistence brought her into the fold of creating chaos across the world.
Fluke-Ekren joined ISIS and led the all-female ISIS battalion in Raqqa, Syria called Khatiba Nusaybah.
As leader of this group and part of ISIS, Fluke-Ekren translated and analyzed documents obtained from a U.S. Consulate that led to the terrorist attack in Benghazi, Libya in 2012. This terrorist attack left four Americans dead as well as the U.S. Ambassador to Libya.
During the trial Fluke-Ekren said, “I was afraid of my conduct in Benghazi. I just didn’t see a way out. I deeply regret my choices, but I also deeply sympathize with women abused and raped in Syria.
The Federal Judge presiding over the case, Leonie Brinkema, responded to these comments with no compassion as well as criticizing her for downplaying the role she had in the horrific Benghazi terrorist attack.
“I don’t believe you were a passive dupe. You knowingly and voluntarily were an accessory after the fact. There’s no question you were providing material support for a terrorist organization,” Judge Brinkema stated.
Fluke-Ekren’s choices didn’t only affect herself, but her family as well.
She brought her children along with her to Syria and during a testimony her daughter Leyla Ekren said that when she was only 13 years old her mother had her married “to a random ISIS fighter as a sex slave… I have felt degraded my entire life.”
To defend this decision Fluke-Ekren said, “She was a few weeks from turning 14,” as that somehow justifies marrying off your own daughter.
First Assistant U.S. Attorney Raj Parekh wrote a memo bluntly describing Fluke-Ekren’s involvement in Syria saying, “Allison Fluke-Ekren brainwashed young girls and trained them to kill. She carved a path of terror, plunging her own children into unfathomable depths of cruelty by physically, psychologically, emotionally, and sexually abusing them.”
