Trump recently received some bad news as the January 6th Committee recommended the Department of Justice(DOJ) to charge former President Trump on four counts related to attempts to overturn the 2020 Presidential election where he faced off with current President Joe Biden and inciting the infamous January 6th riots that White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said was on par with the effects of the Civil War.
The specific charges recommended by the DOJ were charges of conspiracy to make a false statement, obstruction of an official proceeding, inciting an insurrection, and conspiracy to defraud the United States.
Following the announcement of the proposed charges Trump responded on his social media platform Truth Social, writing “The Fake charges made by the highly partisan Unselect Committee of January 6th have already been submitted, prosecuted, and tried in the form of Impeachment Hoax # 2. I WON convincingly. Double Jeopardy anyone!”
Trump interpreted these proposed charges as an attempt to hinder his chances in the 2024 election as he recently announced in November that he will be running again for the presidency.
“The people understand that the Democratic Bureau of Investigation, the DBI, are out to keep me from running for president because they know I’ll win and that this whole business of prosecuting me is just like impeachment was — a partisan attempt to sideline me and the Republican Party,” Trump wrote.
Trump believes that these charges make him stronger as he further stated that “These folks don’t get it that when they come after me, people who love freedom rally around me. It strengthens me. What doesn’t kill me makes me stronger.”
The January 6th Committee is composed entirely of Democrats and two Republicans in Name Only(RINO) who voted unanimously on the proposed charges to the DOJ.
A member of the January 6th Committee and Democratic California Congressman, Adam Schiff, said “Building on his constant repetition of the ‘Big Lie,’ President Trump engaged in an unprecedented effort to obstruct the joint session on Jan. 6, the proceeding where his electoral loss would be certified by Congress. This effort began in part in the states, which hold, count, and ultimately determine the winners of presidential elections. Many state officials were targeted by President Trump and his campaign.”
