On Friday, the FBI continued its investigation into Paul Pelosi’s attack by David Lepage and the groups he may be connected with. The FBI visited a building known as the “hippie collective” in the Berkley California area in connection to the attack.
The 42-year-old David Lepage, acted as a home invader as he attacked Paul Pelosi with a hammer on October 28th.
NBC Bay Area Jaxon Van Derbeken was the investigative reporter first to announce the FBI’s connection to the assailant and this “hippie collective” home. The home was named this by their neighbors for its drapery in rainbow and BLM messages.
A current report released by CNN also alleges that Lepage is in this country illegally and faces deportation.
“U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) lodged an immigration detainer on Canadian national David DePape with San Francisco County Jail, Nov. 1, following his Oct. 28 arrest,” the Department of Homeland Security said.
The attack was described by San Francisco Police Chief Bill Scott in a press conference.
“Officers observed Mr. Pelosi and the suspect both holding a hammer. The suspect pulled the hammer away from Mr. Pelosi and violently assaulted him with it,” he said.
Pelosi called 911 and communicated through code to inform the dispatcher of the dangers of the situation.
“She knew something more was going on, just in her heart and her intuition, just with her experience,” Scott said about the dispatcher. “And that calls for a higher priority than this type of call normally receives. This was a well-being check. And she just knew there was more to it. So, she alerted our officers, she went that extra step … and that led to a quicker response.”
Drew Hammill, the House speaker’s spokesperson, released a statement to assure the public of everyone’s safety.
“The Speaker and her family are thankful for the outpouring of support and prayers from friends, constituents, and people around the country. The Pelosi family is immensely grateful to Mr. Pelosi’s entire medical team and the law enforcement officers who responded to the assault. The family appreciates respect for their privacy during this time,” the statement said.
