Federal agents have reportedly acquired “sufficient evidence” to charge Hunter Biden with tax crimes and making false statements on a federal background check form.
The big decision of whether the first son will ultimately be charged is dependent on United States Attorney, David Weiss who was appointed by President Trump in 2017.
Joe Biden appointed Attorney General, Merrick Garland has repeatedly avoided the question of whether a special counsel should be placed to overlook the investigation, in order to avoid bias from the Justice Department.
On the other side, Hunter’s attorney, Chris Clark has not disputed the rumor and has instead blamed the Justice Department for leaking the potential probe to the press.
“We expect the Department of Justice will diligently investigate and prosecute such bad actors. As is proper and legally required, we believe the prosecutors in this case are diligently and thoroughly weighing not just evidence provided by agents, but also all the other witnesses in this case, including witnesses for the defense. That is the job of the prosecutors. They should not be pressured, rushed, or criticized for doing their job.” Clark told The Washington Post in a statement.
The US attorney in Delaware is David Weiss, a Trump admin holdover. Garland has vowed there will be no political interference in the case, and has not pushed Weiss to make a decision — and it's not uncommon for DOJ investigations to take years to finish. W/ @DevlinBarrett

He further claimed that he has not been contacted by any federal agency. “Therefore, a rendition of the case from such an ‘agent’ is inherently biased, one-sided, and inaccurate,” he told the Post. “It is regrettable that law enforcement agents appear to be violating the law to prejudice a case against a person who is a target simply because of his family name.” He added.
This report comes after Republican Iowa Senator Chuck Grassley had speculated earlier of former FBI agent Timothy Thibault had “shut down” a similar but separate probe related to Hunter Biden’s tax crimes. At the time, Senator Grassley had questioned the investigations saying agent Thibault’s shutting down of the laptop probe “calls into question what U.S attorney Weiss is actually investigating.”
Questions still remain if the probe into Hunter Biden will implicate the “big guy” aka President Joe Biden who had initially claimed of having “no part” in the Biden family businesses but multiple reports have shown otherwise.
