On Sunday, House Minority Leader and future Speaker of the House Kevin McCarthy doubled down on previous statements that he will remove Adam Schiff from his post as Chair of the House Intelligence Committee, and from the committee entirely.
On Fox News’s “Sunday Morning Futures ” McCarthy told host Maria Bartiromo “Another change you’re going to get: Adam Schiff will no longer be on the Intel Committee when I become Speaker. I promised that more than two years ago.”
“[Democrats] also used the intel community as well to lie to the American public. Should those people keep their clearances? Should those people still be allowed to have information? If they’re going to be political individuals, then, no, they should not. And this is just the tip of the iceberg of what we need to investigate going forward,” McCarthy said.
This statement comes on the heels of a back-and-forth between the two congressmen debating the inevitability. One week ago McCarthy spoke Republican Jewish Coalition’s 2022 leadership meeting in Las Vegas and vowed the removal of Schiff, Rep Eric Swalwell, and Ilhan Omar from their committees.
“One thing I said from the very beginning, Eric Swalwell cannot get a security clearance in the public sector. Why would we ever give him a security clearance and the secrets to America? So I will not allow him to be on Intel,” McCarthy said.
“You have Adam Schiff, who lied to the American public time and again – we will not allow him to be on the Intel Committee either,” he continued. “Look at Congresswoman Omar, her antisemitic comments that have gone forward. We’re not going to allow her to be on Foreign Affairs.”
These comments forced a social media response from the Massachusetts lawmaker. Adam Schiff posted a violent response saying:
“Kevin McCarthy has no ideology, no core set of beliefs. He knows he can’t become Speaker without support from the QAnon contingent of his members. So he will do whatever they ask, and remove me from the Intel Committee for holding Trump accountable. He stands for nothing.”
McCarthy will likely helm the post of Speaker when it comes for a vote in January as he has already been elected as the controlling party’s candidate for the election. The GOP has a docket of plans when they formally take control of the House including committee changes, investigations, and many Democratic law repeals.
