American forces conducted a series of raids across northeast Syria this week and have captured six ISIS operatives from the region.
The US Central Command (CENTCOM), reported that American commandos recently captured the terrorists in a series of three separate helicopter raids that took place over a 48-hour period.
One of the six terrorists detained by the commandos is an Islamic State Syria senior official, al-Zubaydi who is famous for his involvement in the planning of facilitation of multiple ISIS attacks in Syria.
“Extensive planning went into these operations to ensure their successful execution,” the combatant command said in a statement. “Initial assessments indicate no civilians were killed or injured.”
This is the second operation of US raids in the northeastern region of Syria this month. The previous helicopter raid of US forces took place on December 11th and was responsible for killing two ISIS officials.
Previously on October 5th, the US forces captured an ISIS operative who was on the most wanted list for smuggling weapons to the terrorist organization.
The series of raids first started in February of this year when the US forces targeted ISIS leader Abu Ibrahim al-Hashimi al-Qurayshi who blew himself up to avoid capture by US forces.
“These partnered operations reaffirm CENTCOM’s steadfast commitment to the region and the enduring defeat of ISIS,” CENTCOM commander Gen. Michael “Erik” Kurilla said in the statement. “The capture of these ISIS operatives will disrupt the terrorist organization’s ability to further plot and carry out destabilizing attacks.”
