It has been reported by The View’s fellow Co-Host Joy Behar that Whoopi Goldberg will not be returning to The View yet due to other projects.
It was announced Wednesday that Goldberg will be on hiatus from the long-running talk show until May 2. “ICYMI: Our EGOT winner is away doing EGOT things! See you soon, @WhoopiGoldberg,” the show tweeted, adding that she will be back to host Hot Topics then.
The “Ghost” actress stepped back from the show because she is filming the upcoming Amazon series “Anansi Boys” in Scotland.
Joy Behar has stated, “If you’re wondering where Whoopi is, the girl’s got a movie she’s making and she will be back when she finishes whatever she’s doing… so she’s gone for a while”.
She made the comments during a discussion about a Tennessee school board banning the book “Maus” from the eighth grade English and language arts curriculum. The McMinn County School Board in eastern Tennessee voted 10-0 earlier this month to ban the Pulitzer Prize-winning graphic novel about the Holocaust, citing concerns over “rough” language and a nude drawing of a woman, according to the Jan. 10 meeting minutes posted to the district website.
Goldberg’s break comes just over two months after she was suspended from the show on Feb. 1. The suspension came as a result of Goldberg saying that the Holocaust was “not about race” during a discussion about a Tennessee school board’s decision to remove graphic novel “Maus” from the curriculum.” ~ NY 4.
Despite giving an apology, a source told The Post that Goldberg was “livid” over the suspension – to the point that she threatened to leave the show entirely.
Whoopi has had an extensive list of scandals during her time hosting The View.
Goldberg was criticized for her candid, outspoken defense following the allegations of sexual assault against Bill Cosby who had more than 25 women accuse him of rape or assault in 2014.
Goldberg appeared to defend NFL player, Ray Rice, after hitting his wife. She claimed that his wife admitted to hitting him first.
“If you make the choice, as a woman who is 4-foot-3, and you decide to hit a guy who is 6-foot-tall, and you’re the last thing he wants to deal with that day and he hits you back, you cannot be surprised,” Goldberg said in 2014.
Donald Trump demanded to see Barack Obama’s birth certificate during a 2011 episode of The View.
“No one has ever said this to George Bush – I’m sorry, is Hawaii not part of the United States?” Goldberg quizzed.
“Isn’t Hawaii still part of the United States? Am I blind?”
Trump said he loved Goldberg and this wasn’t about race. Obama was “hiding something.”
While Rosie O’Donnell and Goldberg only co-hosted The View together for a year, the pair had their fair share of run-ins.In one heated debate, Goldberg told O’Donnell: “You are a white lady telling me what’s racist to you.”
“You don’t have to be black to know what racism is,” O’Donnell fired back.
