On Monday, it was reported that Twitter owner Elon Musk is in the process of reinstating around 62,000 large Twitter accounts that were previously deleted for violation of terms of service. The app is also lifting its policing of Covid-19 misinformation under tweets to encourage free speech.
In what is reportedly called “The Big Bang,” Platform reported that employees at Twitter are scrambling to remove the suspension on thousands of prominent accounts. This comes after Musk released a poll of whether he should relieve these accounts, just like he did with Former President Trump.
“Should Twitter offer a general amnesty to suspended accounts, provided that they have not broken the law or engaged in egregious spam?” Three million voters had their voices heard in the poll and 74 percent voted yes, leading to this release of the accounts.
The people have spoken,” Musk responded. “Amnesty begins next week. Vox Populi, Vox Dei.”
“Vox Populi, Vox Dei” is a Latin phrase the World’s Richest Man has come to live by. The phrase means “the voice of the people is the voice of God,” echoing Musk’s intentions to be a man of the people as he leads this company.

These accounts are not small, 75 of the unbanned accounts reportedly have over a million followers. Of these accounts, 11,000 were suspended for violations related to Covid 19 misinformation.
Musk is ending the two year long status of the Twitter platform related to Covid 19 tweets. The app formerly policed any related tweets for misinformation or for being misleading, this policy will stop in the coming weeks.
Twitter is currently stressed for advertisers, as Musk made public on his Twitter this week, Apple pulled from advertising their products on the platform, causing a major blow to the company. The question now is, are the moves Musk currently is making in favor of free speech and the people good for advertisers?
The truth of Musk’s takeover is he brought Twitter at an extreme premium in favor of emphasizing free speech, but the company is failing to make the money for his mission to continue.
Musk has fired well over half the staff, and is continually evolving how the company works which may look bad to some users or advertisers, the Tesla billionaire needs to make money to sustain what he’s doing, and he might not.
