‘I Believe in the Lord & I Trust in Him’; From the Last Pick in the Draft to the Playoffs, Brock Purdy is the Real Deal

The San Francisco 49ers rookie quarterback, Brock Purdy, was forced onto the field after Trey Lance and Jimmy Garopollo went down with injuries this season and he looked to God for the strength to execute his new position.

Being that he was “Mr. Irrelevant,” the last pick in the 2022 NFL draft, there weren’t high expectations for the rookie QB as younger players, and especially ones drafted so late, usually don’t do well in the league when situations like these arise.

To everyone’s surprise though, Purdy has put on a show as the starting quarterback of the 49ers and getting them to the 2023 NFL playoffs where the 49ers will play the Seattle Seahawks on the way to the Superbowl.

When speaking about the incredible opportunity he received to run the 49er offense, Purdy said “You go out there, you prepare as best you can, you get better every single day at practice, and once you get your opportunity, man, it’s what are you going to do with it?”

“For me, I believe in the Lord, and I trust in Him. I just go out there, and I just play, you know?” he continued.

One of the biggest reasons Purdy’s success is so incredible is the fact that he was the last pick in the 2022 NFL draft.

When asked about how this affected his outlook on his career, Purdy said “Definitely, I think there’s always been an edge to myself. People, they make a joke out of it [being Mr. Irrelevant] and whatnot, and it’s all fun and games in terms of taking the trip and meeting great people and that kind of thing, but for myself, I’ve always believed that I don’t care what slot, what round, what pick that I get picked or if I was undrafted.”

“My whole thing was, man, I just want to go out and prove to myself that I can play at this level. And so that’s always been my mentality,” he concluded.
