On Thursday, new footage was released of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi during the events of January 6th. During the video, Pelosi told her aides that she wanted to punch President Donald Trump if he came into the Capitol.
In the footage taken by Alexandra Pelosi, daughter of the Speaker of the House, Nancy says “I hope he comes, I’m going to punch him out,” Pelosi tells her Chief of Staff Terri McCullough, “I’ve been waiting for this, for trespassing on the Capitol grounds. I’m going to punch him out, and I’m going to go to jail, and I’m going to be happy.”
Pelosi’s comments came as Trump held a rally at the Ellipse, about two miles away from the Capitol. Trump promised to join his supporters at the Capitol, as the presidential election results were being made final.
As the House Speaker watched Trump’s speech, she jokingly quipped that “if he comes here, we’re going to the White House.”
The group of lawmakers on the film took over Fort McNair Military base, a safe space where they discussed together and with Vice President Pence how to proceed. Pelosi even advocated during the video for congress to continue their proceedings at the base.
The video shown to the January 6th Panel Thursday includes other tidbits, such as Pelosi’s concern for the Vice President’s well-being saying, “I worry about you being at the Capitol, don’t let anyone know where you are.”
The Senate Minority leader was also on the phone, this time with the Army Secretary, following up on a rumor the National Guard was blocked by President Trump.
Republican Leaders Mitch McConnell and Kevin McCarthy can also be seen on the phone during the video requesting urgent support from the U.S. Secretary of Defense Christopher Miller.
Unseen footage and Former President Trump being subpoenaed, are indicative that this January 6th Panel will re-enter the headlines and be at the top of American’s minds entering a November election season.
Trump released a 14-page response to the subpoena, not clearly stating if he will comply or show up to future hearings.
