As the economy has seen a significant decline under the Biden administration companies across the country have had to make tough decisions to keep profitability up and maintain a stable position in their industry.

Meta, previously known as Facebook is one of if not the largest social media company in the world spanning a reach that is truly mesmerizing. But being big doesn’t alleviate you from the strife that is the current economy.

Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Meta, recently reported that the social media conglomerate might be due to shed some weight.

Reuters reported that Zuckerberg said Meta managers “who are unable to get on track” may be looking at the door.

While speaking at a weekly Meta meeting Zuckerberg didn’t hold back for his employees voicing his concerns and the results that may come from them.

“If I had to bet, I’d say that this might be one of the worst downturns that we’ve seen in recent history.”

“Realistically, there are probably a bunch of people at the company who shouldn’t be here.”

“Part of my hope by raising expectations and having more aggressive goals, and just kind of turning up the heat a little bit, is that I think some of you might decide that this place isn’t for you, and that self-selection is OK with me,” Zuckerberg concluded.

It’s not only managers at Meta who are in fear of their positions. Across the company Meta has been shedding weight to accommodate for the current state of the economy.

The Western Journal reported that “In addition to potential future cuts of the existing workforce, Meta scaled back the hiring of new engineers in 2022 from 10,000 to between 6,000 and 7,000. Other positions are also to be left vacant.”

In October of 2021, Zuckerberg spoke about the major changes the company made renaming itself to Meta.

“We are at the beginning of the next chapter for the internet, and it’s the next chapter for our company too.”

He continued saying “The next platform will be even more immersive — an embodied internet where you’re in the experience, not just looking at it. We call this the metaverse, and it will touch every product we build.”
