YIKES! Former Twitter Employee Sentenced to Three Years in Prison for Giving User Info. to Foreign Governments

A Twitter employee tasked with middle east relations was recently sentenced to over three years in federal prison for being a spy and sending user information to the Saudi Arabian government.

Ahmad Abouammo, a dual US-Lebanese citizen, was sentenced to 42 months in federal prison and ordered to pay $242,000 to cover the cost of funding he received in the form of bribes from the Saudi Royal family.

US District Judge Edward Chen in San Francisco announced Abouammo’s punishments and that the convicted felon will start his prison sentence in March.

The former Twitter employee is believed to be one of a couple of spies that acquired the personal information of users, including phone numbers and birth dates, for their Saudi government contacts.

The Justice Department announced a total of three American citizens acted on behalf of the Saudi Government two of which worked at Twitter.

“Acting in the United States under the direction and control of Saudi officials, the defendants are alleged to have obtained private, identifying information about users of Twitter who were critical of the Saudi government,” said Assistant Attorney General for National Security John C. Demers.

“Two of the defendants – Alzabarah and Abouammo – are former Twitter employees who violated their terms of employment to access this information in exchange for money and other benefits. Aside from being criminal, their conduct was contrary to the free speech principles on which this country was founded,” the statement continued.

The statement from the Department of Justice went on to say all three have been charged but the other two defendants are believed to be in Saudi Arabia.

“All three defendants are charged with acting as illegal agents of a foreign government; and Abouammo also is charged with destroying, altering, or falsifying records in a federal investigation,” the statement continued. “Alzabarah and Almutairi are believed to be in Saudi Arabia. Federal warrants have been issued for their arrest.”

This story only adds to the exposure Twitter owner Elon Musk is undergoing as head of the social media platform. In his series, the “Twitter Files” Musk is releasing internal emails, showing the company’s criminal levels of deception towards their users and the American people.

As more information continues to be released, the American public is growing wearier of the Big Tech industries and their influence on our lives. This may have resulted in the recent legislation, restricting the use of TikTok in the U.S. due to Chinese government data safety concerns.
