Chicago’s controversial Mayor Lori Lightfoot, has had a year highlighted by her increasingly unsafe city. The Chicago Sun-Times reported that the city will have at least 723 homicide victims in the year 2022.

The most prominent figure of the report is the elevated statistics regarding carjacking. The number of carjacking crimes nearly doubled from the past year, where there were just over 10,000 carjackings in 2021 and over 20,000 in 2022.

Chicago also saw a significant increase in “theft.” For a city already known for its crime issues, Chicago still saw a rise of 50% in crimes described as “theft.”

While we don’t have these statistics updated, in October ABC7’s reported at least 294 juveniles have been shot in Chicago this year, including 33 killed.

All of these scary numbers contribute to the impression the nation had about Lightfoot’s tenure as Chicago Mayor, the city is unsafe. The city’s turn for the worse has been highlighted throughout the year as dozens of figures and companies flee to nearby cities and states.

Ken Griffin, moved his multi-billion dollar hedge fund called Citadel out of Chicago, Illinois to Miami, Florida. Gibson himself is worth $29 billion and his departure from Chicago is a glowing sign of the demise of the city.

“If people aren’t safe here, they’re not going to live here. I’ve had multiple colleagues mugged at gunpoint. I’ve had a colleague stabbed on the way to work. Countless issues of burglary. I mean, that’s a really difficult backdrop with which to draw talent to your city from,” Griffin said.

In May Boeing Co. announced that it would move its headquarters from Chicago to Arlington, Virginia. Tyson Foods Inc. became the latest large company to announce its departure from the city.

Fox News political analyst Gianno Caldwell took on Lightfoot recently saying, “The mayor is taking a page out of Joe Biden’s playbook: If you don’t like the facts, just gaslight the people. And that just simply won’t work in this situation. We just came off a weekend of violence. 63 people shot, including two, 16-year-old boys and a three-year-old girl.”

Mayoral candidate Alderman Sophia King who is looking to overtake Lightfoot soon, has crime as her number one priority, citing many plans on how to attack the problem such as a police reserve or drone usage.
