YIKES! Nancy Pelosi Says Florida Needs to Keep Illegal Immigrants to ‘Pick Crops Down’ There for Farmers

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi held her weekly press conference where she responded to Senator Kevin McCarthy about securing the border. She went on to say we need a secure border but we need the illegal immigrants to “to pick the crops” for Florida farmers.

“We have a shortage of workers in our country, and you see even in Florida, some of the farmers and the growers saying, ‘Why are you shipping these immigrants up North? We need them to pick the crops down here,'” Pelosi said.

The comment was directed toward Governor Ron DeSantis and the two planes full of illegal immigrants he flew from his state to Martha’s Vineyard, Massachusetts.

This created a lot of backlash toward the California Democrat as she attempted to sidestep border discussions to support the party’s push in the midterms. McCarthy’s initial comments were saying that Pelosi is silencing Democratic lawmakers from discussing the issue.

Pelosi attempted to deliver some semblance of a confident border message by saying, “We have a responsibility to secure our border. We also have a responsibility to recognize the importance of newcomers to our nation. Right now, the best thing we can do for our economy is to have comprehensive immigration reform.”

Every major conservative voice gave their opinion on the Speaker’s quote, most commonly on Twitter. Although McCarthy accused Pelosi of being silent on the border issue, ironically the one time she spoke about it was her making major headlines with this slip-up.

This discussion is important as an NPR poll puts immigration as the 4th biggest issue among registered voters for these upcoming midterms behind the economy, abortion, and healthcare.

President Joe Biden is implementing a major change to the nation’s asylum process that his administration claims will help the current border crisis.
